Furniture and Woodcraft Design

Position: Faculty - Full time

Srishti invites applications for the position of Furniture Design Faculty.

We are looking for designers with a hands-on and adaptive approach to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Srishti in our Bangalore campus. We seek applications from practitioners who are creative and passionate, who have a good understanding of current manufacturing processes, contemporary materials used in furniture industry as well as traditional practices. The right candidate will have a hands-on approach to teaching and will be able to direct students through prototyping in the workshop.

We are looking for designers with a furniture, craft and or design entrepreneurship background whose interests necessarily intersect business, design and production, for fulltime teaching.

Knowledge and skills to be taught

The Creative Manufacturing course prepares students to work in the Micro, small and medium scale enterprises or set up their own enterprises to leverage the traditional craft and creative skills in India in furniture, décor and toys utilizing wood and allied materials.

Today in India while there is a tilt in investment in capital and technology heavy areas like aerospace, defense, biotech and electronics hardware, they offer negligent numbers in employment. On the other hand India has an opportunity to capture the global demand for hand made creative industry products at the premium, luxury and everyday segments that have the potential of gainfully employing thousands of the millions of traditional artisans in modern, labor and environmentally compliant manufacturing units.
The market is fiercely competitive and requires best in class methods for design, production and technology adaptation. The sector requires quick design refresh and needs to employ agile methodologies like those used in soft ware industry to crash development time without compromising on innovation or quality.

Expectations of the position

A Masters Degree with 3-5 years of work experience or a Bachelors degree with 5-10 years of work experience in furniture design, product design or craft design with experience in having designed furniture, furniture and décor or furniture and toys. Experience of having designed furniture is a must.
Experience of having handled and managed multidisciplinary teams on projects or in a business is a must. Experience of having seen several products through production is a must.

Skills

  • Be familiar and have used computer aided design tools,
  • knowledge of computer aided manufacturing is a plus,
  • should have worked with grass roots crafts communities,
  • be comfortable with bridging the gap between hand made, computer designed and high levels of consistency demanded by modern markets.

Should have used development methods like Agile, and Lean Production and design methods.

Interaction & Interface Engineering

Position: Faculty / Coordinator - Full time

Srishti is recruiting individuals who have strong skills in interaction & interface design & development and in teaching/education at the post secondary level (undergraduate) to develop, teach and coordinate a design curriculum built around interface design and interaction engineering capabilities. Srishti is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their creative work, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the Srishti academic community.

About the curriculum:

The vision of this program is to create designers who will be able to design and develop user interfaces and interaction designs for products and services that enhance the overall user experience. The 3-year diploma in Interface & Interaction Engineering focuses on training students to develop exceptional skills to craft high-quality, professional interface designs. Grounded in the human centered design principles, this program leverages an approach that optimizes the interface around how users can, want, or may use the product, rather than forcing the users to change their behavior to accommodate the product. The program will focus on the tools, standards, frameworks and methods of creating, documenting, and communicating interface design across web, mobile, and large screen platforms. The studios will be more applied, where the students will learn through applying the concepts in concrete design situations under the mentorship of studio leads. The overall curriculum covers an iterative process of designing interactive computing applications including desktop/laptop software, and smart-phone/tablet apps.

Knowledge and skills to be taught

The position we are recruiting will coordinate with our extensive industry UX partners in delivering this style of courses for our undergraduate diploma program in the area of user interface and interaction engineering. Candidates whose creative work and teaching combine a robust array of the following will be given preference: user interface and interaction design, HCI, or comparable discipline, with experience teaching interaction design and development for multiple device types and contexts; ability to prepare students for career opportunities in the field; and extensive knowledge of current professional practices in interaction design.

  • M.Des or equivalent required OR B.Des with 5 years of experience
  • University-level or diploma level teaching experience
  • An established record of creative work and/or industry or equivalent professional experience relevant to the position.

Technical Program: User Interface and Interaction Engineering


Interior Design

Position: Faculty - Full time

Architects, Interior designers or furniture designers with experience in designing and execution or supervising execution of interior projects.

Knowledge and skills to be taught

The Design & Build Interiors program at Srishti develops students who both design spaces and execute the construction, providing the client with an appropriate, efficient and economical service.

The program aims at creating a designer who is capable of dealing with all the agencies required in the building industry and who is familiar with the technology required for the design of intelligent spaces. 

The course focuses technical know-how, material grounding through exposure to the practice and opportunities for creative exploration and development. Project management and meta coordination of all the agencies that come together prefabrication.

Expectations of the position

  • Professionals with under-grad /post-graduate level education in Interior Design or Architecture are invited to apply for the above position to teach in this 3-year undergraduate program. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Entrepreneurs with real-world design-build experience are welcome.
  • Experience in designing and supervising /executing interiors is a must.

Technicians & Model makers (Wood & Metal Workshop)

Position: Faculty - Full time

Srishti invites applications for the position of Workshop Technicians and Model makers for Wood and Metal workshop.

Expectations of the position:

We are looking for applications from technicians who have a sound knowledge of hand and power tools, ability to read technical drawings, be able to guide students in safe workshop practices, manage inventory, issue of tools and equipment, working knowledge of production techniques and basic knowledge in machine maintenance. Applicants are required to have training in ITI or equivalent diploma with a basic working knowledge of English.

User Experience & Interaction Design

Position: Faculty - Full time

Srishti is recruiting individuals who have strong skills in user experience & interaction design and in teaching/education at the post secondary level (undergraduate and postgraduate) to develop and deliver a curriculum built around Human centered Design focusing on user experience design and interaction design capabilities. Srishti is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their creative work, research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the Srishti academic community.

About the curriculum:

The vision of this program is to create designers who will empathetically explore and apply understanding of human behavior, context, and technology towards creation of digital products and services that enhance the users lives. Human Centered Design is about keeping focus on “people” while creating products and services. It is about creating rich user experiences that aim at solving existing problems, creating delight for people and making products and services usable and useful. At Srishti Human Centered Design concentrates on Interaction Design and User Experience Design. We think about human-centered design as not just “user-driven” in its traditional sense, but more about “designing for emerging usages”. We foster a combination of creative Art & Design thinking, along with critical thinking of the Humanities to explore a human-centered design that not only produces great digital solutions, but also critically questions and explores future ways of interacting with digital technology and their implications. Our current curriculum is developed around the traditional skills of design in classic areas of design, product & interface, furniture, textile, visual communication, film, animation, interior and space just to name a few. These courses are structured around leading edge design pedagogy where most courses are delivered around a project that is used to "teach by doing".

The position we are recruiting will develop and deliver this style of courses for our undergraduate and graduate program in the area of user experience and interaction design. Candidates whose research, creative work and teaching combine a robust array of the following will be given preference: user experience and interaction design, HCI, or comparable discipline, with experience teaching interaction design for multiple device types and contexts; ability to prepare students for career opportunities in the field; solid background in design theory and history and interaction design research; and extensive knowledge of current and emerging professional practices in interaction design.

Position: Teaching Faculty - Visual Communication & Strategic Branding, Graphic Arts & Design Practices

Knowledge and skills to be taught

  • Masters level Design education from a leading institute in Graphic Design or Applied Art or Visual Communication Design, OR, at least 10 years of Work experience and at least 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in the field.

  • Experience working with students/interns and guiding them with positive attitude and constructive feedback.

Position: Technical Faculty - Visual Communication & Strategic Branding, Graphic Arts & Design Practices

Knowledge and skills to be taught

  • As a technical faculty member in this program, you will develop, teach and assess learning units in Adobe Creative Suite, Management, Production and Archiving of digital files, and Basic Coding for web based design at different levels of learning. Some of the major courses in this program where you could be involved as faculty are
    • Teaching and developing proficiency in Complete Adobe Creative Suite
    • Teaching latest/industry standard applications in Font Design
    • Teaching Management and Preparation of Digital Files for variety of production processes
    • Exposure to Printing and Production of Digital files using variety of production processes
    • Teaching Basic Coding for web-based design
    • Teaching Basic Interactivity and Interface design for animated graphics
    • Teaching Basis to Advance level drawing and visualizing on computer
  • Full-time faculty is expected to assist the deans, course leaders, and other faculty members in planning and management of the program involving curricular development, facilitation and assessment of courses that develop core technology skills in our students

Expectations of the position

The ideal candidate has strong skills in computer science and software application specifically meant for designers such as complete Adobe Creative Suite, 3Ds Max, and Fontlab. Knowledge of animation applications will be an added advantage.

The person we are looking for will be a motivated educator and possess either teaching experience in a formal education setting or experience as an instructor in industry. S/He will have the passion of a teacher who finds great satisfaction in students learning from their teaching. They will be able to create courses and deliver them in the practicum style used in a design school.

Eligible candidate need to meet following conditions:

  • Adobe Certified Trainer OR Posses 5 years of work experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • At least 2 years of teaching and/or instructing/training experience either in the industry or in academics
  • Strong inter-personal skills for working collaboratively and teaching in an undergraduate as well as postgraduate academic environment.



Position: Faculty - Strategic Design & Brand Leadership

Knowledge and skills to be taught

  • We are looking for experienced and motivated faculty candidates to involve in high-quality, post-graduate / under-graduate teaching program with specialization in strategy, design management, design strategy and domain specializations in media & entertainment, information management, design thinking, brand strategy, innovation management and entrepreneurship.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate expertise in the practice and theory of strategic design, brand management in the context of design-driven businesses. Applicants with innovative research, doctoral-level work or significant professional experience in one or more of the following areas: innovation, entrepreneurship, organizational theory, brand strategy or business strategy, among creative industries.

Eligible candidate need to meet following conditions:

  • Ph.D / Masters level education from a leading institute in Design, Design Management, Strategy, Management education with strategy as specialization, OR Masters level education with 5-10 years of teaching experience, OR, at least 10 years of Work experience along with at least 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in the field.
  • Candidates will have a distinguished academic career and an established reputation in their fields, and an excellent publications record.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the relations between design and management in a context of broader economic, social, cultural and political forces.
