Schools & Disciplines


At Srishti we strive at creating a learning environment that is person-centric. What this means is that students are given the freedom to choose from a wide variety of courses, build their own portfolio based on their inclinations and strengths and use this to develop as creative practitioners of the 21st Century.

While student navigation is encouraged our courses are created to encourage and foster both disciplinary knowledge, skills and thinking and also value complexity through inter-disciplinary projects and charettes.

Our faculty come from three schools which are


1. School of Design, Business and Technology (SDBT)

At School of Design, Business & Technology (SDBT), we believe that Design links creativity and innovation and shapes ideas to create practical and attractive propositions for all/people. We describe design as creativity deployed to a specific end.

Design process involves the successful linking of creativity and innovation.  Technology is a key enabler of innovation and business is a key driver of success. 

The environment that we inhabit is a combination of products, services and systems that make it possible for us to live in individual comfort as well as coexist. The products that we use are invariably part of a larger service and system. The design process requires a holistic understanding of people, their needs and aspirations in the context of the larger system.

Uniquely positioned to help understand and interconnect dependencies between People, System and the Environment, the process enables innovation through immersion, envisioning, making, co-creation, validation, and deployment.

The School of Design, Business & Technology is rooted in the convergence of society, culture and business; and aims to empower one to design for the real world. We nurture creative integrity, sustain an independent practice and facilitate the creation of good business frameworks.

The school engages with centers, disciplines and studios, for expressive, experimental use of cutting edge technologies. We offer opportunities to engage with industrial design, spatial design, visual communication and strategic branding, user experience and interaction design, as well as system and service design. 

 

2. School of Law, Environment and Planning (SLEP)

The enormous challenge of sustainability and resilience is the focus of politics, activism and conflict today, across the globe. This challenge requires a fundamental rethinking of the structures that govern society, economies, cultures, and education. It requires us to cross the boundaries of disciplines and develop a sensibility for a new approach to the 'wicked problems' of the world. In India the focus of global organizations, government and not-for profit organizations has been to look at issues of poverty, access to resources such as water, biodiversity, conservation, forest governance, livelihoods and environmental law. The issues are much more complex than they seem and need a new understanding in order to engage in.

The Graduate School of Law, Environment & Planning offers a trans-disciplinary approach traversing between research and practice to embrace the complexities of working in contentious landscapes. The school’s programs will have a strong grounding in art and design practices enabling graduate students to navigate across many disciplines and ecologies, to impact policy, and potentially make change on the ground.

The school aims to initiate a dialogue that brings to fore the interactions at the fringes of where these disciplines interact because sustainability is not about the three pillars of environment, economy and society but the interconnections and inter-dependencies among the various layers and players.

Students will have a platform to navigate across art and design, social sciences, ecology and environment, policy and law. The programs will offer a reflective and responsive curriculum to enable students to work between thinking and doing, theory and practice.

Research interests within the school range from of the students range from policy level issues such as rights, access and benefit sharing (ABS), biodiversity, water conservation. Questions of the larger notions of justice, rights, sustainability and resilience, development and progress, will drive the programs in the school and the opportunities for engagement.

 

3. School of Continuing, Open and Professional Education (SCOPE)

Srishti’s School of Continuing, Open and Professional Education is committed to the advancement of lifelong learning and to the provision of open access to high quality educational resources.

The school aims to create learning opportunities for practitioners to develop and extend their practice towards their personal and professional growth.

Programs are designed to provide learning that is flexible, diverse and available at different times across geographical boundaries. Opportunities are offered for practitioners to re-engage with learning in multiple ways, paced to keep up with the demands the world of practice.
